On a cold weekend in February before our warm spell arrived and melted all our snow, Dan and I initiated a family butchering project. Thankfully my local siblings and their wives were up to the adventure so we purchased a couple hogs from our friends Byron and Emily Stoller and made us from fresh pork. It was an excellent family-bonding experience and Duane even brought his friend Hang home from K-State to gain a little US country experience :) Dad and Mom and U. Earl were the instructors of many eager pupils!

Mom started us out on Friday night with chili and fresh cinnamon rolls after the guys did the first stage of the work and Saturday morning we re-convened after more yummy cinnamon rolls, egg casserole and coffee, of course! It was a full day of making cuts, grinding, stuffing, smoking and packaging, but well worth the efforts. We took a break at noon for freshly grilled sausage patties...a MUST with butchering!!

Thanks to everyone for being involved and Mom & Dad for hosting all the work at your place! It's wonderful to have fresh pork in the freezer!

As a disclaimer...the up close, gross pictures (ie: guts) are compliments of our dear sister-in-law Maggi :)
